The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Hot Brass offers a unique product sure to please music lovers of all types. During a concert, you are likely to hear funk, jazz, blues, soul, zydeco, swing and country, as well as the latest pop hits.
Hot Brass defies conventional definition by thriving on diversity and creating a musical gumbo of genres to exploit each musician’s musical background. This ten-piece group utilizes vocals, drums and guitar to entice audiences to move their feet while also paying tribute to our brass roots: front-line tuba functioning in lieu of electric bass, a “beefed-up” horn section, and heavy emphasis on brass. However, when the performing environment demands different styles or mobility, Hot Brass easily breaks down into a small pop combo and a brass quintet.
Throughout the Midwest, Hot Brass serves as musical ambassadors for the Air Force in free civic outreach concerts. In 2008, the group deployed to the Area of Responsibility (AOR) in Southwest Asia, the Middle East and North Africa in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, bringing a taste of home to the hard-working men and women of the US military and coalition forces. Secondly, they carried a message of good will to people of all ages throughout the AOR.
Because of the versatility and portability of this outstanding ensemble, their performances are always in high demand. Whether supporting public affairs initiatives, recruiting, or special military engagements, Hot Brass represents the pride and professionalism found every day throughout the United States Air Force. |
